Kathy Oster – Pre-Kindergarten
Kathy is an Immanuel High School graduate. She graduated from CVTC in Eau Claire, WI with a degree in Child Care Services. This program prepared her to teach and care for children from birth through kindergarten in daycare or public school settings. She worked as the teacher of 3-year olds at Luther Hospital Day Care one summer and as the 1-year old teacher at Color My World for 1 year. Kathy started her own in-home day care when her first child was 1 year old. During the 5 years of this she taught a preschool program to her day care children for 2 years. While living in Utah, she was able to homeschool her 2 children. Kathy has coached the Messiah volleyball for 4 years while her 2 daughters were of age. The past 4 years she has worked in the Kids Club at Gold’s Gym part-time. Kathy has been teaching the Pre-K at Messiah since her call in 2009. She also helps out in the 1-2 grade room and the 3-4 grade room with art once a week.
Eileen Tiefel – Kindergarten
Eileen has an Associate’s Degree with an emphasis in education from Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, WI. Prior to accepting the call to teach Kindergarten at Messiah in 2000, she was active in developing curriculum for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs. Eileen and her husband, Pastor Paul Tiefel, raised eight children and together they have 18 grandchildren.
Carrie Reim – 1st – 2nd Grade
Carrie graduated from Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, WI, with a degree in Elementary Education. She is certified to teach in the schools of the Church of the Lutheran Confession. She has continued her education at UWEC, Mankato State University, and Austin Community College. Carrie served as principal and teacher of grades 1-8 at St.Paul’s Lutheran School, Austin, MN. She also taught summer school for the Austin Public School District. She taught grades one and two at Immanuel Lutheran School, Mankato, Minnesota, before moving to Eau Claire. From 2001 to 2011, Carrie taught art at Immanuel Lutheran High School here in Eau Claire and homeschooled her own three children for seven of those years. Outside of the classroom, Carrie enjoys music and the arts, reading, and travelling with her family.
Andrew Roehl, 2nd – 3rd Grade
Andrew attended the UWEC for a couple of years as a math major before attending Immanuel Lutheran College where he graduated in 2016 with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. Andrew has enjoyed being a counselor at the ILC/Koyquin kids camp for the past 6 years. He is married and is expecting his first child in October of 2016. Besides teaching and instructing children, Andrew enjoys guitar, singing, playing cards, and working at his family farm in North Dakota.
Barbara Gurgel – 3rd – 4th Grade
Barb is a graduate of Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, WI, with a degree in Elementary Education. Barb is certified to teach in the schools of the Church of the Lutheran Confession. She taught 1st-4th grades at Immanuel Lutheran in Winter Haven, FL, for two years. Barb served as a substitute teacher, teacher’s aide, and worked with learning disabled students for three years at Hyde Park Elementary in Denison, TX. She served as a part time teacher in grades 1-8 for three years at Trinity Lutheran in Watertown, SD. Barb spent two years overseas on a mission trip to Nigeria, Africa, where she home schooled her middle school and high school aged sons. She worked for five years at KinderCare daycare in Eau Claire, and was called to serve as an upper grade teacher at Messiah in 1997. She has been serving as a 3rd-4th grade teacher at Messiah since 1998.
Paul Tiefel III – 5th – 6th Grade; Homeroom
Paul is a 2006 graduate of Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, WI, with a degree in Elementary Education. Paul is certified to teach in the schools of the Church of the Lutheran Confession. He was called to serve as a 5th-6th grade teacher at Messiah in 2006. He currently serves as the 5th-6th grade homeroom teacher, specializing in Language for 5th-8th grades. Paul attended our own Messiah Lutheran grade school from 1991 through 1997. He also coordinates the maintenance of our computer network.
Lori Wirth, 5th – 8th Grade Literature and Composition
Lori has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Disorders and a Master of Arts Degree in Audiology from Western Michigan University. After working at Beltone Hearing Aid Center for a year, she operated an in-home daycare from 1995 until 2001. From 2002-2007, Lori worked as a Special Education Para-professional in the Eau Claire Area School District (ECASD). During this time, she also earned certification in Early Childhood Special Education from UWEC. After substitute teaching in the ECASD, and working as Teacher/Director of Education at Sylvan Learning Center for six years, Lori gladly accepted the call to teach 5th-8th grade Language Arts at Messiah.
Seth Schaller – Principal, 7th – 8th Grade
Seth is a 1993 graduate of Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, WI, with a degree in Elementary Education. He is certified to teach in the schools of the Church of the Lutheran Confession. He taught K-8 and served as principal at Redeemer Lutheran in Cheyenne, WY, for five years. Seth was called to teach upper grades and serve as principal at Messiah in 1998. He also has coached flag football and assisted with coaching basketball at Messiah. Seth served as the JV baseball coach at Immanuel Lutheran High School for several years and has regularly coached Little League baseball in Eau Claire.
Heather Thompson – Music
Heather is a life-long member of Messiah Church, and attended Messiah School from Kindergarten through 8th grade. She is a graduate of Immanuel Lutheran High School, and graduated from CVTC with a degree in Marketing. Heather has been an organist for Messiah for 13 years. Prior to accepting the call to teach music at Messiah, Heather taught piano at Immanuel Lutheran High School, and also assisted with coaching their JV volleyball team. Two of Heather’s three children attend Messiah School.
